Save Yourself $19.99 +tax

Now that 2012 is here the mad dash for good health is upon us.  You could see it in the Sunday paper yesterday where every major department store was advertising the next best piece of fitness equipment.  Commercials are running non-stop for meal replacement shakes, bars, supplements and equipment that can twist and bend you just right to get those rock hard abs in only 5 minutes a day.

Can I just say it? RIDICULOUS!!!

If you are serious about leading a healthier lifestyle, living longer & overall feeling better about you, none of these gadgets are going to make the difference needed.  So, before you spend $19.99 on not one but two  ridiculous "as seen on tv" items, take a look at these helpful tips to a Healthier 2012!

If you have not had the opportunity to read any of Michael Pollan's books...do so.  These tips are adapted from his book, Food Rules - An Eater's Manual.

1. Eat Food - Real, Whole Food.  NOT edible food-like substances.

2. Avoid food products containing ingredients that no ordinary human would keep in the pantry.

3. Eat only foods that will eventually rot.

4. If it came from a plant, eat it; if it was made in a plant, don't.

5. Taste the Rainbow - Eat vegetables daily from a wide range of colors.

6. It's not food if it arrive though the window of your car or if it has the same name in every world language. (Big Mac, Cheetos, Pringles, McDonald's)

7. Cook - get your hands dirty and let your kids help (even if they spill and it takes longer to get it done)

8. Get 30 minutes of exercise a day. Whether it's walking, playing outside with your kids, taking the stairs or even cleaning the house. Get up and get moving.

9. Laugh - When it's funny, when you feel like crying, when you're at your best and when you're at your worst...just laugh. Life is temporary.

10. Give - Take the time to give of yourself, your talents and your treasures to others. Do it for them, not for you.

  2. Some of Michael Pollan's "Food Rules" crack me up, but they are all fantastic! In his book he expands on each rule! Definitely a good read!
